Friends Chinese Restaurant is a great choice for Chinese dining in the heart of the Essex town of Halstead. Found right along the main High Street, this popular Chinese eatery is a big hit amongst locals of the town and its long list of regular customers only enhances its popularity even further. An integral part of the dining scene of Halstead, Friends Chinese Restaurant has built its reputation on its high quality cuisine and excellent service, all of which is now available to tastecard members who, when calling in advance and producing their card upon request of the bill, can enjoy all of their sumptuous dishes at a fantastic discount.
The menu features all of the favourites anyone would expect of a good Chinese restaurant, with an array of tasty noodle, curry and stir fry dishes to choose from along with some great vegetarian choices and a good selection of chicken, pork, duck and seafood plates to sample too. Stand out dishes include the crispy aromatic duck, which is served with hoisin sauce, julienne cucumber and spring onions, and accompanied by the obligatory pancakes; the baked fresh crab with ginger and spring onion (previous notice required) and the Szechuan king prawns with a hot bean sauce. The salt and pepper spare ribs are another highlight with Szechuan pepper, five spice, garlic and chilli giving them a real kick.
Located in a charming period cottage style building along Halstead High Street, Friends Chinese Restaurant has some great period features in the dining room. The low ceilings are covered in old wooden beams and pretty cottage windows look out onto the street. Round tables covered in crisp white linens fill the room with just the right amount of space in between them.
